14U Boys In Lyons Tournament
Partin Park has played host to the 59th Annual Lyons Youth Tournament over the past couple of weeks. One of the first tournaments of the event was the 14U boys’ baseball with a local team coming out on top.
In the first round of the tournament, Swainsboro defeated Long County 6-3, and Evans County won by forfeit over Appling County. In the second round Swainsboro came out on top over Jeff Davis 6-4. Lyons and Evans then took the field with Lyons pulling ahead early, 3-1. They went on to win the game 5-1 over Evans to advance to the semifinals.
In the losers’ bracket Evans was defeated by Long 10-2, and Jeff Davis advanced by forfeit. Jeff Davis then beat Long 11-1 to move ahead.
Lyons rolled over Swainsboro in the semifinals 12-0 to move into the finals as the undefeated team. Swainsboro turned around and beat Jeff Davis 5-2 to get a rematch with the boys from Lyons.
In that Championship Game Lyons was on top 2-1 after the first inning and led 4-1 after the second. They held onto that lead until the fourth inning when they plated three more runs to take a 7-1 lead. Lyons won the game and the Championship by that score.
The Lyons boys are taking part in the GRPA District 1 Tournament in Lyons at Partin Park this week. The tournament kicked off on Monday and will wrap up with the Championship Game on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
