Lyons 8U Boys Take 2nd At Partin
As part of the 59th Annual Lyons Youth Tournament the 8U boys baseball tournament took place from May 26 – June 4. The boys from Lyons made it to the Championship Game before falling to Jeff Davis. In the first round of the tournament Vidalia Recreation won big over Glennville 11-0. Jeff Davis Navy beat Jenkins County 20-0, Appling County defeated Metter10- 2, Evans County beat Jeff Davis Gold 6-4, and Reidsville rolled over Swainsboro 18-8. In the second round JD Navy won 12-0 over Long County, and Screven County beat Evans County 11-1. Vidalia faced off with Appling on top 2-0 after the first inning. VRD scored eight runs in the second to take the lead, and were up 8-3 after two. VHS led 9-6 after three innings and went on to take the win 21-11. Lyons went up against Reidsville and were on top 2-1 after the first inning. LRD led 5-2 after the third and got the win, 7-2.
In the next round of the winners' bracket JD Navy faced off with Vidalia and took the win 13-1. Lyons defeated Screven 6-1 to move on to face JD Navy in the semifinals.
In the losers' bracket Metter won over Glenville 5-0, Reidsville beat Jenkins 13-1, Metter beat Evans 5-1, Appling won over JD Gold 12-0, and Long County won 16-6 over Swainsboro. Reidsville then beat Metter 14-2, and Appling defeated Long 11-9. Screven won over Appling 12-0. Vidalia faced off with Reidsville and were trailing 5-4 after the first inning. Reidsville led 8-5 after the second and then were on top 13-5 after the third. Reidsville won the game 16-5 over VRD to end their tournament.
Screven knocked off Reidsville 5-4, but in the semifinals JD Navy won 10-0 over Screven. That set up Lyons and JD Navy for a rematch in the Championship.
In the first game of the Championship JD was in complete control as they led 5-0 after the first inning. They were up 6-0 after two and then 8-0 after three. JD took the win 13-0 in five innings to force a second game.
JD kept it up in the second game. Lyons led 2-0 after the first inning, but those were the only runs they scored in the game. JD took the lead in the third inning to lead 4-2, and were up 8-2 after the fifth. JD took the win and the title, 14-2.
Both teams will head to the State Tournament, which will be held next week in Bulloch County.
