LRD 14U Girls Finish 2nd

The Lyons Recreation Department's 14U girls softball team was in Augusta to take part in the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association State Tournament in June. They had a good showing and came home as the State Runner-up.

In the first round of the tournament Lyons took a 7-0 win over Coffee County. In the second round Lyons won 10-2 over Lee County to move into the semifinals of the winners' bracket. They ran into a tough Wayne County team and fell by just one run, 4-3. That sent Lyons into the losers' bracket where they met up with Vidalia. Vidalia had lost in the first round to Moultrie 14-5, but bounced back with wins over Lee County 9-7, and Moultrie 4-3. In the semifinals of the losers' bradket Lyons pulled away to a 15-8 win over Vidalia to move into the Championship Game.

That put Lyons back up against Wayne County. In the Championship Game Wayne pulled ahead and took the win 9-1. With the loss Lyons finished as the State Runner-up with Wayne taking the title.
