The Vidalia High School softball team played three games last week. They kicked off their Region schedule against Pierce County on Thursday and then hosted Bacon County and Heard County at the Ed Smith Complex on Friday.
Vs. Pierce
VHS opened Region 3AA play against the Bears of Pierce County and got a great pitching performance from Tymber Harris, who threw a no-hitter over five innings. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when Sophomore Aidyn Driggers singled to center field. Senior Tori Wright followed that with her third home run of the year, giving the Indians a 2-0 lead. The next batter, Emma Vinson walked, then Madison Starr singled. After Shayla Bennett reached on an error to load the bases, Senior Emily Thompson doubled to make the score 4-0. Harris grounded out, but an error by the first baseman allowed two more runs to cross the plate, making it 6-0.
The Indians added four more runs in the fourth inning on a Starr single and a Harris single. That made the final score 10-0.
In the circle, Harris was dominant. She went five innings, giving up zero hits, and striking out 11. Offensively, the Indians were led by Tori Wright 2-2, HR, 2 RBI; Madison Starr 2-3, 2 RBI; Emily Thompson 2-2, 2 RBI; and Aidyn Driggers 2-3.
Vs. Bacon
On Friday Vidalia hosted two teams at the Ed Smith Complex. In the first game for the Indians, they took on the Raiders of Bacon County. The Indians were on top 3-2 after three innings of play. Starr was in the circle to start the game and had done a good job keeping the Raiders off balance. But in the top of the fourth inning, they did have runners at the corners, but a lineout to center field ended the Bacon threat.
Harris came in to pitch in the top of the fifth inning. After a couple of hits and an error Bacon had the bases loaded. A wild pitch brought in a run to tie the game at 3-3. Another urn scored on a bunt to put the Raiders on top 4-3. Vidalia kept them from scoring any more runs, sending the game to the bottom of the fifth with Bacon on top 4-3.
In the bottom of the fifth Shayla Bennett came up with a hit, and moved over to second on a wild pitch. Harris came through with a hit into shallow right field that scored Bennett to tie the game at 4-4.
Neither team added any more runs and the game ended in a tie at 4-4.
Vs. Heard
The Indians struggled against the Braves of Heard County in the second game on Friday. Heard pulled away to a 9-3 win over VHS. Vidalia is now 3-4-1 on the year, but they are 1-0 in Region play. This week they took on Tattnall County in a Region game on Tuesday after presstime. They will host ECI on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. and then Toombs County will be at the Reservation on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. On Friday and Saturday the Indians will be at the North Oconee Titan Classic where they will play Commerce at 4:00 p.m. on Friday and Jackson County at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
