The Vikings of Treutlen County High School opened up their football season last Friday night at home against the War Eagles of Jenkins County. There were several turnovers that led to 21 points for the War Eagles as Treutlen was shut out in their season-opener.

Jenkins scored the first points of the game with just 52 seconds remaining in the first quarter. They went in on a run from 13 yards out and added the extra point to take a 7-0 lead.

In the second quarter after recovering a fumble near midfield, Jenkins took just two plays to find the end zone again, this time on a 48-yard run. Treutlen did block the extra point, but the War Eagles were on top 13-0 with just under seven minutes to play in the half.

Jenkins added one more score in the first half as they went in on an 18-yard run with just 28 seconds on the clock. They tacked on the two-point conversion to make it 21-0 at halftime.

Jenkins blocked a punt early in the third quarter, recovering the ball at the Treutlen 37-yard line. That led to another touchdown, this time on a 17-yard run with 6:40 left in the quarter. That made it 27-0.

The War Eagles scored two more times in the fourth quarter on their way to a 40-0 win over the Vikings.

This week Treutlen will be at Bryan County in Pembroke on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
