On Saturday the Toombs County High School and Middle School cross country teams traveled to Cochran to compete at the “Clash of the Classes.” This unique race format is a 2-mile race for all runners, and matches runners up against runners only in their respective grade. Several of the TCHS Bulldog runners were able to place in the top 10 in their grade race and come home with a medal. In the 9th grade boys race, Moises Young ran a 13:10, which was good enough for 10th place. On the girls side, freshman Mareli Luna ran a 16:05, which placed her 5th in her race. In the 10th grade race, Bryleigh Woods ran a 17:24, which was good enough to grab 8th place.

At the Middle School level, Juan Luna ran an 11:34 to take 1st place and Dalton Kight ran a 13:06 to take 7th place in the 8th grade boys race. Luna’s time of 11:34 was the 4th best time of the day from all age groups, and he also received a plaque for the best overall male Middle School runner. Deanna Gonzalez ran a 16:54 to grab 10th place in the 8th grade girls group. Coach Jeremy Moore said, “This is a good race for us to get some speed work in on a tougher course. It is also good for us to run this 2 mile race before we hit our long stretch of 5k races for our season. We had good times from almost all of our kids, and we are excited about getting into the meat of our schedule now, as we continue to prepare for the region meet in October.”
