Three Wins For TCHS Volleyball

The Toombs County High School volleyball team took on Vidalia, Appling County, McIntosh County Academy, and Savannah High last week with their only loss coming to Appling. vs. Vidalia
On Tuesday, the JV and Varsity Net Dogs both had good nights as both teams defeated cross town rival Vidalia. The JV started the night with a straight set win over Vidalia 25-21 and 25-12. Leading the JV team was Emma Wright (11 service points and 6 aces), Ma’Kayla Brewton (6 service points, 5 aces, and 2 kills), Makenzie Kilgore (3 service points, 2 aces, and 2 kills), and Estrella Barbosa (7 service points, 4 aces and 4 assists). The JV Net Dogs had another great night serving with 19 aces and only 6 service errors. The Varsity Net Dogs had a big night serving against Vidalia with a straight set win 25-21 and 25-12. The Varsity Net Dogs had 14 aces, while only having 5 service errors. The Lady Net Dogs were led by Alayah Servin (16 service points, 3 aces, and a 1 kill), Zariaha Newkirk (9 service points, 6 aces, 2 digs, and 2 kills), Scarlett Stanley (3 service points all on aces), and Martasia Burton who led the team with 4 assists. vs. Appling
Unfortunately, the night ended on a low note with straight sets loses to Appling County 25-21 and 25-21 both being hard fought sets. High points for the Net Dogs were Zariaha Newkirk (6 service points, 2 aces, and 5 kills) along with Anabel Cruz (6 service points and 6 assists). vs. MCA
On Thursday, the Toombs County Lady Net Dogs made a clean sweep at McIntosh Academy. The JV won the first set 25-10, lost the second 19-25, but rebounded in the third with a 15-6 win to get the victory over MCA. The JV Net Dogs move to 3-0 on the season.
The key players in the match where Ma’Kayla Brewton, Estrella Barbosa, and Alivia Patrick. Brewton had 15 service points, 11 aces, 5 digs, and 2 kills. Barbosa had 14 service points, 7 aces, 6 assists, and 2 digs. Patrick led the team with 5 kills, while Arianna Hill and Emma Wright both contributed with 3 service points in the third set of the match. Way to go, JV Net Dogs!
The Varsity Lady Net Dogs defeated McIntosh Academy in straight sets 26-24 and 25-16.
Sarah Morris led the way with 12 service points, 6 aces, and 3 kills. Kortney Mahone had 7 service points and 1 ace. Zariaha Newkirk contributed with 8 kills. The Lady Net Dog’s Setters played well with Anabel Cruz providing 9 assists and Martasia Burton contributing with 5. vs. Savannah
In the second of the night versus Savannah High, the Dogs had to battle winning in 3 sets 23-25, 25-19 and 15-9. The turning point in the match came in the second set with the Lady Net Dogs down one set and the score tied 18-18. Sarah Morris went to the service line and delivered 5 straight points to make the score 23-18. The Dogs finished that set 25-19 and went on to win the third 15-9. Other key player against Savannah High were Kortney Mahone, who led the team with 4 aces, Scarlett Stanley, who led with 8 service points, and Anabel Cruz and Martasia Burton contributing with 8 assists. Zariaha Newkirk led the team with 8 kills. The Varsity team is now 8-2 overall on the season and 4-2 in region play.
Toombs will be at Bryan County on Thursday of this week at 5:00 p.m.
