When Georgia Meredith began running for the Vidalia High School Lady Indians cross country team last year, she had never run under 25 minutes in a 5k. On Saturday, September 10, in Carrollton, she missed the school record by just two seconds. On Thursday, Meredith not only ran a personal best, but the sophomore also took care of the school record, running a 19:57 at the Southern Georgia Championship, held in Hazlehurst.

Girls

The record time for Meredith was good enough for a 2nd place finish among 155 runners and propelled her to number three in the Georgia State Rankings.

“Georgia’s previous PR was a 21:02,” said Vidalia Cross Country Coach Mandy Godbee. “She skipped the 20-minute mark altogether and runs a 19:57! When I say we never know what she is going to do when she races, I am not joking. We just know she is going to battle it out and shock everyone in attendance, every single time!”

Aleah Ajohda (24:19), J’Miya Hunt (31:10), and Anna Claxton (36:17) all recorded personal best times as the Lady Indians finished 14th.

Boys

The boys led the day off with 193 runners representing 27 teams, and Seth MacGregor’s personal record of 17:47 led the way, finishing 5th, allowing the Indians to finish 5th, just two points behind Jeff Davis. Andrew Hodges also had a season-best (18:12) to finish 13th, with Chamlee Evans also running a season-best 18:54. Abrien Anthony (19:37) had an all-time personal best, with Hunter Loosberg (19:48) also turning in a personal best.

Next up for the Vidalia teams will be a short trip to Lyons on Thursday, where they will run in the Bulldog Invitational, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
