MCHS Wins Over Portal
The Montgomery County High School Eagles football team were at Portal on Friday of last night and came away with a Region win. The Panthers of Portal took the lead in the first quarter of the game as they found the end zone on an 18-yard touchdown pass. They added the extra point to lead 7-0. In the second quarter of the game, the Eagles took advantage of a turnover as Tristian Bell scooped up a fumble and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown. Mario Ortega added the PAT to tie the game at 7-7 with under seven minutes to go in the first half. Later in the half the Eagles took the lead over the Panthers as Cameron Wallace capped off a drive with an 8-yard run for the score. MCHS missed the extra point, but led 13-7. Portal jumped back on top as they took the ensuing kickoff and returned it 80 yards for a touchdown. They added the two-point conversion to take a 15-13 lead over the Eagles. Neither team scored over the reaminder of the first half to go to the locker room with the Panthers on top. Early in the third quarter, the Eagles went back on top with Wallace going in from eight yards out. Bell went in for the two-point conversion to give MCHS a 21-15 lead over Portal. The Eagles added a 26-yard field goal by Ortega with less than three minutes to go in the game to push the lead to 24- 15. The defense held on a MCHS won the game 24-15 over Portal. Wallace led the way with 136 yards on the ground. Jamarion Henderson added 85 rushing yards. Jamun Coglin had two interceptions on defense for MCHS. The Eagles are now 4-3 on the season and are 1-0 in Region play. This week the Eagles will make up Homecoming. The Homecoming festivities will be held before the game at 7:00 p.m. The Eagles will face off against McIntosh County Academy with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
