Homecoming At Heritage
It was Homecoming for the Eagles of Vidalia Heritage Academy last Friday night as they took on the Eagles of Sherwood Christian Academy. It was a shootout with Sherwood coming out on top by just four points. There was a total of 112 points scored in the game.
During halftime of the game Heritage brought out the Homecoming Court and crowned a new King and Queen and Prince and Princess. John Smith was crowned as the 2022 Homecoming King and Lily Williams was crowned the new Homecoming Queen. Jacob Dean was crowned Homecoming Prince and Julia O'Neal was crowned Homecoming Princess.
Sherwood got on the board first less than two minutes into the game. They added the extra point to go up 7-0 on VHA. On their next possesstion they hit a big 45-yard pass to the VHA 15yard line, but on the next play Ethan Sikes intercepted a pass and went 85 yards for a Heritage touchdown. Ledger Curl added the two-point conversion to put VHA up 8-7 with just over nine minutes left to play in the first quarter.
With 7:37 left in the first Sherwood was again in the end zone for a score. They hit the PAT to go back on top 148.
Heritage answered on their next drive with a 30-yard touchdown pass from John Smith to Sikes with 4:04 left in the first. VHA did not get the twopoint try so the game was tied at 14-14.

down. They added the PAT for a 21-14 lead. Sherwood intercepted a pass on Heritage's next drive and took over at the VHA 37-yard line. The Heritage defense held, though, and they took over at their 30-yard line near the start of the second quarter.
On the first play Smith hit John-Colby Thompson for a 70-yard touchdown pass with 11:39 left in the half. Sikes went in for the two-point conversion for a 22-21 lead over Sherwood.
Sherwood added a 32-yard pass for a touchdown with just over 10 minutes left on the clock to go back on top 28-22. Heritage moved the ball down the field on their next possession on a big run by Curl and reception by Sikes to the 15-yard line. VHA moved the ball down near the goal line and capped it off with a Smith touchdown with 5:10 left in the half. Sikes added the two-point conversion for a 30-28 lead.
They came right back with a 70-yard touchdown run with 4:42 left in the half. They tacked on the two-point try to take a 3630 lead over Heritage.
With just 18 seconds to play in the first half Heritage had the ball all the way to the 15-yard line of Sherwood, but a penalty moved them back 15 yards and ended their threat. The score at the half was 36-30 with Sherwood on top.
In the second half of the game the scoring did not slow by much as Sherwood added 22 points to their total, while Heritage posted 24 points. But that difference gave the win to Sherwood, 58-54, over Heritage.
The loss was the first of the season for VHA who is now 6-1 on the year and 2-1 in Region play. This week Heritage will travel to Sharpsburg to take on the 2-5 Central Christian Crusaders. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
