Local Students Show Hogs at Three Rivers Event
Youth swine exhibitors from Wheeler, Telfair, and Montgomery Counties gathered at the Montgomery County Farm Bureau Livestick Arena for the annual Three Rivers Swine Show on Saturday, October 1. The event was judged by Reggie Beasley and gave exhibitors needed experience and feedback before they advance to the Georgia National Fair Show.
The show began with showmanship classes, which judge how well the exhibitor shows their pig. Jebb Brown took home first place in Pre-Club Showmanship, with Layla Vann winning the Novice Showmanship Class. Sarah Grace Williams won the Junior Class. The competition in the Intermediate Showmanship class was intense, but Zoey Vann prevailed, earning first place. Showmanship classes concluded with Mason Connell winning the Senior class.
Weight classes were broken into two categories-Breeding Gilts and Market Hog classes. Anna Beth Ethredge won the April Breeding Gilt class, Jaxon Derriso took home first place in the March Breeding Gilt class, and Zoey Vann won the Commercial Gilt class. Class winners were eligible for the Grand Champion Breeding Gilt drive, which was won by Zoey Vann and her gilt. Alice Braddy’s second place pig from the Commercial Gilt class entered the ring for the Reserve Champion Breeding Gilt Drive, which was ultimately won by Anna Beth Ethredge. There were five total Market Hog Classes. Anna Beth Ethredge took first place in classes one and three, Mason Connell won classes two and four, and Zoey Vann exhibited the class five winner. Class winners were eligible for the Grand Champion Market Hog drive. Mason Connell’s gilt from class four took home Grand Champion Market Hog while the Reserve Champion Market Hog award went to Zoey Vann.
