Tough Loss For Wheeler

The Bulldogs of Wheeler County High School took on Telfair County last Friday night in McRae. It was a tough loss for Wheeler that brought them to 4-4 on the season and 1-2 in Region play.

Telfair took the lead in the first quarter with a touchdown to lead 7-0. They added their second touchdown of the game with less than a minute to go in the first quarter on a 15-yard pass play. With the extra point they led 14-0 over the Bulldogs.

Telfair capped off a drive with less than a minute to go in the first half with an 11-yard touchdown pass. That extended their lead to 21-0 heading to the locker room.

Wheeler got on the board with around three minutes to go in the third quarter on a 23-yard passing touchdown. They added the extra point but trailed the Trojans 21-7.

The Trojans added another touchdown with three minutes to go in the third quarter of the game. With the extra point, they led 28-7 over the Bulldogs.

Early in the fourth quarter Telfair scored their final touchdown of the game to take a 35-7 lead over Wheeler. The Bulldogs put one more late score on the board with two minutes to play to make the final score of the game 35-13.

This week Wheeler will host rival Truetlen County in Alamo at 7:30 p.m.
