Wheeler Falls In State Playoffs
The Wheeler County High School softball team took part in the GHSA A Division II Super Regionals last week. They dropped their first game to Emanuel County Institute, bounced back with a win over Seminole County, but then fell to Charlton County to end their season. The Bulldogs ended the season with a record of 10-16. vs. ECI
Wheeler got on the board first with a run in the top of the first inning, but ECI came back with three in the bottom of the frame to take a 3-1 lead. Wheeler tied the game in the top of the third inning at 3-3, but a big bottom half from ECI gave them control of the game. They plated five more runs to take an 8-3 lead. ECI added two more in the fifth inning and one in the sixth to win the game 11-3 over Wheeler.
That sent Wheeler into the losers' bracket where they faced off with Seminole County. vs. Seminole
Wheeler jumped on top of Seminole in the top of the first inning with four runs to take a 4-0 lead. Wheeler added three more runs in the second inning to take a 7-0 lead. Seminole scored a run in the bottom of the second inning to make it 7-1. Wheeler plated three more runs in the third inning to push the lead to 11-1. Seminole made it 11-2 in the bottom of the frame, but three more from Wheeler in the fourth inning made it 14-2. It was 14-3 after the bottom of the fourth inning, and Wheeler took the win, 14-3. vs. Charlton
In the bottom of the first inning Charlton took the lead with four runs and added a run in the second inning to lead 5- 0. Charlton scored three more in the fourth inning to take an 8-0 lead. Wheeler closed the lead to 8-3 in the top of the fifth inning, but Charlton plated three in the bottom half to win the game 11-3. That ended the season for the Bulldogs.
