MCHS Falls In 1st Round
The Eagles of Montgomery County High School were on the road for the first round of the GHSA State A Division II State Playoffs. The Eagles took on the Patriots of Wilcox County in Rochelle and gave them a good game, but came up short. The loss ends MCHS's season with a record of 4-7.
Early in the game Wilcox held a 9-8 lead over the Eagles, but a field goal by MCHS put them on top 11-9 with five minutes to go in the first half of the game.
It didn't take long for Wilcox to answer as they added a touchdown just a minute later. With the extra point they went back on top, 16-11. Neither team added to their totals over the remainder of the first half.
Early in the third quarter the Patriots connected on a passing touchdown as they increased their lead to 23-11.
Later in the third quarter the Eagles came up with an interception by Dreshun Patterson, who returned the pick 38-yards for a touchdown. They tacked on the PAT to close the lead to 23-18.
MCHS quickly got the ball back for their offense and got a big rushing touchdown to put the Eagles back on top, 26-23 after converting on a two-point conversion.
In the fourth quarter the Patriots took the lead back, but missed the extra point, making the score 2926.
Wilcox added one more touchdown with about six minutes left in the game on a rushing touchdown. With the extra point they led 35-26 over MCHS.
The Patriots held MCHS out of the end zone over the rest of the game as they took the win, 35-26.
Cameron Wallace led the way with 201 yards rushing for MCHS. Tristan Bell added 100 yards on the ground.
