BPC Wrestling Falls To Treut-McConnell

Brewton-Parker men’s wrestling hosted Truett McConnell (Ga.) on Wednesday afternoon for an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup in Gillis Gymnasium. The Barons (37) fell to the Bears (2-4) in a 30-12 contest.
Wednesday’s dual opened with a forfeit in the 184lb bout with Charlie Henkel picking up the win and the Barons’ first six points of the dual. In the 197lb match, Nolan Cook took down Ethan Larsen in a 10-7 decision to give the Bears three points.
With a 6-3 lead, BPC found themselves leveled with TMU as Tevin Person was defeated by Phillip Terrell by way of a 9-4 decision in the heavyweight match. After equalizing the dual 6-6, the Bears took control of the lead in the 125lb match as Brandon Navixay pinned (0:45) Zachary McFarland.
Down 12-6, Dennis McNeal boosted the Barons’ score to nine with a 9-2 decision in the 133lb bout. Truett McConnell advanced to a nine-point advantage after scoring six team points by way of a fall (2:34) over Tyree Henry.
The Bears added another three team points in the 149lb match as Leonel Silvestre took down Bradley Owens in a 9-3 decision, moving the score to 21-9. Brewton- Parker responded with an 11-8 decision from Kullum Irvin in the 157lb match to make the score 21-12.
Carlos Cruz was defeated by a pin (1:55) at 165, giving TMU a 27-12 lead with one final match remaining. At 174, Dominic Martinez was downed in an 11-5 decision to give the Bears their final three points, sealing the final score to 30- 12.
The Barons are scheduled to return to the mats on Jan. 4 at Emmanuel College (Ga.).
