The Toombs County School System has announced that Toombs County High School Head Football Coach Richie Marsh will be leaving his position to return to Frostproof, Florida, where he began his coaching career. During his seven years at Toombs County, Marsh restored the team’s winning tradition and ended his tenure with a 46-31 record and numerous playoff appearances.
“On behalf of the Toombs County School System, we are forever grateful to Coach Marsh and his family for their devoted commitment to restoring the winning tradition of Toombs County Bulldog football over the last seven years,” stated Superintendent Barry Waller.
“Seven years ago, I did not know where Lyons, Georgia, was located. Seven years later, I not only know, but I have experienced love like only my Bible speaks of! From the community, board members, administrators, coaches, students, and last but not least, players! This is all because of Jesus in them! I now have a new purpose: to return to Frostproof, FL, and give back what my father has so graciously given to me!” said Coach Marsh.
Waller also announced that Coach Buddy Martin, Toombs County’s athletic director and previous defensive coordinator, will be taking over as head football coach and will continue in his role as athletic director. In the 2022 season, the Bulldog defense recorded five shutouts under Martin’s leadership. He served as head coach in Florida for six years prior to coming to Toombs County to work with Coach Marsh. As head coach, Martin holds a record of 40-25 along with two regional playoff (third round) appearances.
“It is a blessing and a great honor to be the head football coach here at Toombs County, and I would like to thank Mr. Waller, Mrs. Morris, and the members of the board for this opportunity,” said Martin. “My family and I have been a part of this community for 7 years now, and it is our home. It is bittersweet for me with the amount of love and respect I have for Coach Marsh. He is my brother, my mentor, and my friend. He has definitely left this program better than he found it. I am extremely excited for the future of Toombs County Bulldog Football. We will continue to strive for excellence in everything that we do. We will continue to develop our young men into better football players and student-athletes. It is a great time to be a Toombs County Bulldog!”
Coach Martin’s leadership will continue to build upon the current foundation and ensure continued success for the Toombs County Football Program. The Marsh family will be greatly missed, and the school system wishes them the very best as they return to Florida.
