Solid Week For Eagles
The Montgomery County High School Lady Eagles basketball team extended their winning streak to 15 games with three big wins last week. They are now 16-1 on the year and are 2-0 in Region play. The boys won 2 out of 3 games last week to improve to 6-9 on the year, and they are 1-1 in the Region.
Girls vs. ECI
It was a close game in the first half, but the Lady Eagles pulled away in the second half to defeat Emanuel County Institute on Tuesday night at home.
MCHS held a slim 1713 lead at the end of the first quarter, and in the second they took a 28-22 lead in to halftime.
In the third quarter the Eagles began to pull away as they outscored the Bulldogs 18-7. That put MCHS on top 46-29 going to the fourth. In that final period MCHS added to their lead to win the game 60-32.
Marley Bell led the way with 20 points, Jabrayla Coglin added 17 points, and Amire Banks scored 12 in the win.
Boys vs ECI
In the boys game it was a one sided contest, with the Eagles running away with the win. They began to pull away early as they rolled to a 74-39 victory over ECI.
Jakobe Mobley led MCHS with 25 points, and Javarius Kelly scored 10 in the win.
Girls vs. Portal
On Friday night on the road the Lady Eagles blew out the Lady Panthers of Portal. In the first quarter the score was 8-8 before the Eagles began to pull away. By the mid way point of the second MCHS was on top 23-8. They extended that to 30-8 by the beginning of the third quarter.
By the end of the third it was 47-14. MCHS kept up he pressure and took the win 52-19.
Boys vs. Portal
It was the only loss of the week for the MCHS boys as the Panthers took the win. Portal came out fast and put 32 points on the board in the first quarter, giving them a 32-15 lead. Portal extended that lead in the second quarter to 54-30.
By the end of the third quarter, the score was 8042 with Portal in control. Portal went on to win the game 88-58 over the Eagles.
Mobley led the Eagles with 17 points.
MCHS vs. Treutlen
On Saturday at home the Eagles picked up two wins over the Vikings of Treutlen County. The Lady Eagles rolled to a 6338 win over Treutlen.
In the boys contest MCHS held on to get the win 73-65 over Treutlen. MCHS was led by Mobley with 22 points, Tristen Bell added 17 points, and Quintarius Doyle posted 13 points in the win.
This week MCHS was at Jenkins County on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Friday as they travel to ECI at 6:00 p.m.
