A two-car collision left two injured and claimed the life of an Atlanta woman traveling through the area on Thursday, January 19.
The Toombs 911 Dispatch received a call reporting a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Georgia Highways 292 and 86 at around 12:27 p.m. on Thursday. Upon arrival, the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office discovered a black GMC truck and white BMW SUV on the east shoulder of the roadway. Upon preliminary investigation, officers believe that both vehicles were traveling eastbound when the truck, driven by Timothy Hayden, 54, of Vidalia, failed to yield at the intersection, causing it to enter the lane in which an SUV, driven by Robert Mitchell, 76, of Atlanta, was traveling, and striking the front passenger side of the vehicle.
Hayden and Mitchell were both transported by ambulance to Memorial Health Meadows Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while Mitchell’s passenger, Sue Mitchell, 75, of Atlanta, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Georgia State Patrol Post 18 – Reidsville is investigating the collision.
