Bulldogs Win 2 Of 3

The Toombs County High School Bulldog basketball teams faced off with Brantley County, Metter, and Telfair County last week. The Lady Bulldogs dropped all three of their games, while the boys won two of three, with the only loss coming in double overtime.

Girls vs. Brantley

TCHS could not get the offense going against the Lady Herons. Brantley held TCHS to just 14 points in the game while pulling away to a 65-14 win.

Boys vs. Brantley

The Bulldogs steadily pulled away from the Herons to pick up the win on Tuesday night in Nahunta. Toombs led the game 1712 at the end of the first quarter and pushed their lead to 34-23 at halftime.

TCHS outscored the Herons 18-10 in the third to hold a 52-33 lead going to the fourth. Toombs picked up the win 63-48.

Dominic Eason led the way with 18 points, Jesus Quintero added 12, and Marion James scored 11 in the win.

Girls vs. Metter

The last time these two met, TCHS got one of its few wins of the season. In this game, though, Metter made some adjustments and rolled to the victory. The Tigers came out on top 56-29 over the Lady Bulldogs.

Boys vs. Metter

The Toombs boys cruised to a win over the Tigers. Toombs led 26-8 by the end of the first quarter and were in complete control of the game. TCHS extended their lead to 48-16 by halftime, and never looked back.

The score was 66-24 at the end of the third, and Toombs took the win 7831.

Eason and Quintero each scored 22 points in the game to lead the Bulldogs.

Girls vs. Telfair Toombs kept fighting in this game as they tried to make a second half comeback. TCHS was down 19-3 at the end of the first quarter, and it looked like the Lady Trojans were going to easily win the game. But in the second quarter the TCHS defense held Telfair to 7 points to make the score at halftime 26-8 with TCHS down.

In the third quarter Toombs outscored Telfair 16-6 to close the lead to 32-24. Toombs kept going in the fourth, but just didn't have enough as Telfair held on to win, 41-35.

Boys vs. Telfair This was a back-andforth game that took double overtime to decide. The Trojans led Toombs 12-7 at the end of the first as the Bulldogs could not find their mark on offense. Toombs came back in the second to pull ahead to a 30-24 lead by the end of the first half.

In the third Toombs was up 48-41, but Telfair closed in on the lead in the fourth and tied the game at the end of regulation, 60-60. That forced overtime.

In the first overtime each team scored 12 to make it 72-72 when the buzzer sounded to send the game to double overtime. In that second overtime Telfair got one more shot to fall than TCHS as they won the game 81-79.

Eason put 27 points on the board for Toombs, with Quintero adding 24, and James scoring 11 in the loss.

The Lady Bulldogs are now 5-15 on the year and are 2-5 in Region play. The boys are 13-7 on the year and are 3-4 in the Region.

This week Toombs hosted Appling County on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Friday at Tattnall County at 6:00 p.m., and then on Saturday Toombs will be at Vidalia at 4:00 p.m.
