Juvenile Under Investigation After Bringing BB Gun To School
The Toombs County Sheriff’s Office (TSCO) has turned a case over to the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) after responding to a report that a Toombs Central Elementary School student had brought a firearm onto campus.
At 12:33 p.m. on Friday, January 27, officers responded to a dispatch call explaining that a student had possibly brought a firearm to the school. The caller had been informed of this possibility by a student, who the teacher said had shared that he saw the gun in another student’s backpack. Upon hearing this, the teacher immediately located and escorted the student and backpack to the library.
The gun was discovered, and after investigation by the TCSO, was determined to be an unloaded bb gun. The student did not intend to harm anyone, but rather wanted to show off the gun, which he received as a Christmas gift, to his friends.
The gun was taken into custody by authorities, and the DJJ was notified of the matter for further action.
