A single-vehicle accident claimed the life of a 40-year-old woman on January 23.
Toombs County 911 Dispatch received a call at 3:13 p.m. that a vehicle had wrecked near the intersection of Cedar Crossing-Vidalia Road and J.P. Milligan Road, which is located in the Uvalda area. Upon arriving on the scene, deputies found a blue Ford Fusion off the roadway, where the vehicle had struck a tree.
The driver of the vehicle, Shalada Lore Nelson, of Lyons, was found deceased by the Toombs-Montgomery EMS upon their arrival on the scene.
Based on a preliminary investigation, authorities determined Nelson was traveling north on Cedar Crossing-Vidalia Road when her vehicle left the roadway, striking a tree. Deputies were later informed by a witness that Nelson had called an individual prior to the wreck and said that she was having severe chest pains. She was attempting to drive herself to the hospital at the time of the accident.
Because of this information, investigators believe Nelson may have had a medical issue that caused her death while driving, which then led to the accident. The Georgia State Patrol Post 18 – Reidsville is continuing to investigate.
