On Wednesday night, the Toombs County High School baseball team opened the season hosting the AAAAAAA Richmond Hill Wildcats, in a game that was dominated by good pitching. Unfortunately, Richmond Hill was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a victory over the Bulldogs, winning 2-0. For the Bulldogs, Lucas O’Conner started the game for Toombs and gave up 1 run over 4 innings, striking out 2, and walking none. Gavin Hall and Trayvone Harris entered the game in relief for the Dawgs, throwing two innings and one inning respectively. Hall struck out 4 and allowed the other run in his two innings of work.
A single by Harris in the first inning was a positive for Toombs County Bulldogs Varsity. It was also good to see Brantley Upshaw get an at bat late in the game, and he hit a line drive that was caught by the Wildcat second baseman. That was Upshaw’s first at bat in several months.
This week the Bulldogs were at Screven County on Tuesday after presstime, and will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Screven at 5:45 p.m., and on Thursday in Douglas to play Coffee County at 6:00 p.m.
