VHS Basketball Seasons End
The Vidalia High School Indians basketball teams both had tough draws in the first round of the GHSA State AA Playoffs last week. The Lady Indians went up against Josey, the #5 ranked team in the state, and the boys took on the #1 ranked team in the state in Westside Augusta. Both Indian teams saw their seasons come to an end against the top ranked teams.
Girls vs. Josey
On Tuesday of last week the Lady Indians were in Augusta to take on the Lady Eagles of Josey. The game was low scoring early with the game tied at 4-4 nearly six minutes into the game. Hannah Nichols and Cori Warner had the two baskets for VHS. But Josey added a three-pointer and then a last second basket to hold a 9-4 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Early in the second Nichols got a basket, but Josey had pulled ahead to a 14-6 lead. Warner helped cut the lead to 1711, and it was 19-13 with just under two minutes left in the first half. But by the buzzer Josey had made it 24-13.
In the third quarter the Eagles began to pull away. They were leading 32-19 with 2:40 left in the third. With just over five minutes left in the game, they were on top 45-19 as the Lady Indians could not get a shot to fall.
Josey went on to win the game 52-22 to end the Lady Indians season. VHS finished their first year under new Head Coach Kourtney Williams with a record of 1611, but they were 10-2 I Region play. They have a very young team and will be looking to make it back to the playoffs next season.
Boys vs. Westside
The boys were in Augusta on Wednesday to face the #1 team in the state. It was a tough day for the Indians as they could not stop the Patriots. VHS fell to Westside 77-32 to end their season.
VHS finished the year with a record of 1810 and they were 7-5 in Region play.
