Toombs Sweeps Vidalia
The Toombs County High School soccer teams were swept by Savannah Arts on Tuesday of last week at home, but bounced back with a pair of wins over rival, Vidalia, on Friday on the road. The girls are now 5-3-1 on the year and are 4-2 in the Region, while the boys are 5-4 overall but 2-4 in Region play.
Girls vs. Savannah
Toombs kept it close in the first half, and were trailing by just one, 2-1, at halftime. But in the second half of the game Savannah's Panthers scored four more goals, while Toombs was held to just two. That gave Savannah a 6-3 win.
Anyadi Colmenares, Estrella Barbosa, and Maritza Zamorano each scored a goal in the game.
Boys vs. Savannah
It was a battle between the Bulldogs and the Panthers on Tuesday in The Pit. Neither team scored a goal throughout regulation. That sent the game to overtime tied at 0- 0.
In the first overtime each team scored 1 goal to tie it up at 1-1. But in the second overtime period Savannah took the lead, and held on to win over Toombs, 2-1.
Girls vs. Vidalia
The Lady Bulldogs rolled over Vidalia on the road on Friday. Toombs posted five goals in the first half of the game and then added three more in the second on the way to an 8-0 win.
Colmenares and Zamorano each scored two goals to lead the team with Colmenares adding three assists. Barbosa, Aubrey Gay, Danaka Robbins, and Maggie Rodriguez each had a goal, and Emmerson Powell added two assists.
Boys vs. Vidalia
The TCHS boys also won over Vidalia. The Bulldogs scored twice in the first half, but gave up one goal to take a 2-1 lead into halftime. In the second half Toombs found the back of the net three more times and allowed just one more goal. That gave the Bulldogs a 5-2 win over Vidalia.
Yovanny Zamorano scored twice in the match to lead Toombs. Gustavo Delgado, Osvaldo Tinoco, and Braylen Dietrich each added a goal in the game. This week Toombs was at Appling County on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Friday at Tattnall County at 5:00 p.m. for a pair of games.
