Brewton-Parker College softball traveled to Jacksonville, Florida, to take on NCAA DII member Edward Waters in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Barons (15-15) split the afternoon against the Tigers (27-7) with a 3-2 win and a 2-0 loss on the road.

Game 1

Alexis Bradshaw led the inning off with a single, stole second, and advanced to third on a passed ball to give the Lady Barons a great opportunity. After Alyssa Usrey reached on a fielder’s choice, but Bradshaw was out at home on the following play. After a stolen base from Usrey and a walk from Abbey Flowers, a base hit from MacKenzie Tripp loaded the bases. Chloe Strickland brought a run in on a sacrifice flyout while Cailyn Snellgrove connected for an RBI single to close out the inning with a two-run edge.

With a scoreless second inning in the books, the hosts managed to get a run back in the bottom of the third inning utilizing three hits in the process. Fortunately for the Lady Barons, the error in the inning did not aid in scoring an additional run for the Tigers as EWU moved the deficit to just one run.

In the top of the fifth, BPC moved back to a two-run advantage as Skylar Strickland barreled a double and received a free base on an error on the next play. With two runners on, Usrey received a free base before Flowers knocked in a run for the 3-1 advantage.

Edward Waters produced a hit and took advantage of another error to help score a run in the sixth inning, but the Tigers left two runners stranded to close the inning. In the top half of the seventh, Brewton-Parker was knocking on the door of additional runs with base hits from Ashley Wilson, Kristi Peters, and Flowers. Despite the solid bat production, two runners were left on base, and the game closed with BPC ahead 3-2.
