12 Titles In A Row For RTCA Girls

Robert Toombs Christian Academey's Varsity boys and girls track teams competed in the GIAA 6AA Region Championship at Georgia Southern University on Wednesday, April 19, and the Varsity Girls won their 12th Region Championship in a row. RTCA's Varsity Boys finished the season as Region Runner- Up to Trinity Christian School.

Coach Jacob Wilkinson said, 'It was a really fun meet and I was so proud of our kids. It didn’t go exactly how we planned. However, bringing home two trophies in Region is always exciting, especially when you add a team like Trinity.

'Trinity was a AAA school last year and their girls won state in AAA and their boys finished state runner-up. So I feel like our kids accomplished something really special this year, competing at a high level against two really good teams.

'It’s always exciting to see our kids having so much fun out there supporting each other. We were a little intimidated coming into the meet being a single A school competing against AA schools, but we had several individual Region Champions this year and some personal records were made and I couldn't be more proud.'

Region Championships were won by: Girls 4×100- Nicole Acosta (Sr.), Kylie Acosta (Soph.), Arlie Gooden ( Jr.), Mekhia Bell (Fresh.)- 51.67 100 Hurdles- Nicole Acosta (Sr.)17.02 100m- Mekhia Bell (Fresh.) -12.89 300 Hurdles- Nicole Acosta (Sr.) -50.14 200m- Mekhia Bell (Fresh.)- 28.12 4×4- Kylie Acosta (Soph.), Nicole Acosta (Sr.), Mekhia Bell (Fresh.), Arlie Gooden ( Jr.) – 4:20 Long Jump- Kylie Acosta (Soph.)15’5 Shot- Mandy Johnson (Soph.)- 29’9 Boys

Triple Jump- JaShaun Powell (Sr.) 44’6 Long- JaShaun Powell (Sr.) 20’4 High Jump- Aaron Hankerson ( Jr.) 6’2 100m- Aaron Hankerson ( Jr.) 10.8 200m- Aaron Hankerson ( Jr.) 22.17 Both RTCA teams had several boys and girls qualify for the State Meet which will be held April 27-29 at Strong Rock Christian Academy.
