The Toombs County High School Bulldogs Esports team is heading to the Spring 2023 GHSA Esports state championships at the University of West Georgia Arena in Carrollton on April 29. The Bulldogs will be competing in Splatoon 3 against Discovery High School at 12:00 in a semifinal matchup, with the state finals to follow at 3:00.
Toombs County's journey through the playoffs has been nothing short of impressive. The Bulldogs won a dominant 3-0 match in the state quarterfinals over Lithia Springs to qualify for the GHSA championships.
Coach Tyler Corley expressed his excitement for the team's accomplishments, stating, 'The team has worked tirelessly all season to reach this point, and we're thrilled to be competing in the state championships. We believe in our players, and we're confident in their ability to succeed.'
The win over Lithia Springs was the 350th all-time win for the TCHS Esports team.
The Bulldogs will face a tough challenge in Discovery High School. The Titans have steam rolled through all of their opponents this season with the exception of Georgia perennial Splatoon 3 power, Northview.
'We know that Discovery is a strong team, but we're not intimidated. We've been practicing hard, and we're ready to give it our all on game day,' said team captain Adam Copeland.
Toombs County Bulldogs Esports team accomplished another remarkable feat during their match with Lithia Springs, winning their 350th game in school history. The team has also won 34 all-time playoff games, cementing their position as one of the top teams in the region. This is a significant milestone for the team, especially considering that they were founded just a few years ago in the fall of 2020.
While the Splatoon 3 team is set to compete in the state championships, the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Rocket League teams also put up strong showings in the playoffs.
The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe team advanced to the second round of the playoffs after defeating AAAAAAA East Forsyth. However, they faced a tough challenge against Chattahoochee High School of Johns Creek, Georgia, ultimately falling to the Cougars. Despite the loss, the team demonstrated their skills and determination throughout the season, leaving a strong impression on their opponents.
The Rocket League team, which returned as a team after a two-year hiatus, also put up a good fight. They qualified for the playoffs in their first season back, but unfortunately lost a tough first-round matchup against North Gwinnett. Despite the loss, the team is proud of their accomplishments and is looking forward to building on their success next season.
