Wheeler County Advances to State Forestry Field Day Event
On Tuesday, April 18, the Wheeler County Middle and High School FFA traveled to the Area 4 Forestry Field Day in Statesboro. The Forestry Field Day event is made up of ten different contests in which a group of eleven students compete. There were seven junior teams and seven senior teams competing.
The high school senior team and the middle school won 1st place, and the high school junior team placed 2nd. All three teams will advance to the State Forestry Field Day on May 4 in Swainsboro.
Middle School Team members were Fisher Thornton, 2nd in Reforestation; Kaleigh Scott, 1st in Timber Stand Improvement; Ava Dixon, 1st in Cord Volume; Layton Johnson, 1st in Board Foot Volume; and Noah Page-3rd in Compass & Pacing; Kinlee Raiford, 2nd in Land Measurement; Ginnie Connell, 1st in Tree Identification; Conley Murray, 1st in Ocular Estimation; Kaitlyn Morgan, 3rd in Forest Disorders; and Kaden Knight and Savannah Purvis, 2nd in Forest Management. Other team members were Chassity Knight and Molly Wright.
High School Junior Team members were Aiden Lanier, 1st in Reforestation; Keaton Pickle, 2nd in Timber Stand Improvement; Peyton Williams, 4th in Cord Volume; Kelly Gonzalez, 2nd in Board Foot Volume; Trent Butler, 2nd in Compass & Pacing; Layla Gibbs, 1st in Land Measurement, Isabella Sellers, 2nd in Tree Identification; Kaitlynn Herrington, 3rd in Ocular Estimation; Lillian Bright, 2nd in Forest Disorders; and Lockland Bell and Konner Smith, 1st in Forest Management.
High School Senior Team members were Chase Wooten, 1st in Reforestation; Lauren Humphrey, 3rd in Timber Stand Improvement; Marlee Veal, 1st in Cord Volume; Lane Connell, 3rd in Board Foot Volume; Zoey Vann, 1st in Compass & Pacing; Faith Clark, 1st in Land Measurement; Sierra Connell, 1st in Tree Identification; Haven Griffin, 1st in Ocular Estimation’ Anna Beth Ethredge, 1st in Forest Disorders; and Owen Stokes and Maryee-Grace Selph, 1st in Forest Management. Other team members were Weston Pickle, Hunter Wooten, Molly Bridges, Adriel Collins, and Hannah Moore.
