MoCo Eagles Soar Towards Graduation

The Montgomery County High School Class of 2023 celebrated their accomplishments on Tuesday, May 9, at the annual Senior Honor’s Night event. During the ceremony, several students received awards, scholarships, and graduation regalia in preparation for the graduation on Friday night, May 19.
A total of 14 scholarships were given at the ceremony, including two John Robison Silicon Ranch Scholarships, each providing the receiving student with $5,000 for their education. These scholarships were awarded to Ava Goggans and Declan Harbuck, who were selected based on their grade-point average, written essay, and presentation to a scholarship committee.
Other scholarships presented were as follows: Vidalia Lions Club Memorial Scholarship – Jaliya Moore; Brittany Ward Scholarship – Jabrayla Coglin; Turner Brice Memorial Scholarship – Natalie Harrelson; Christine C. Harris Memorial Scholarship – Jabrayla Coglin; Faye D. Brewer Memorial Scholarship – Rome Thornton; Rev. Robert J. Conner Memorial Scholarship – Joselyn Sanchez; Coach Wilbert Snell Scholarship – Jaliya Moore,; Talmadge McLendon, Jr. Memorial Scholarship – Javarius Kelly; Verail Women’s Club Scholarship – Aaliyah Brazell; Tri-County Family Connection Scholarship – Jaliya Moore; and David and Patti Winge Memorial Scholarship – Braden Hardeman.
Other Awards
Subject Awards
One student was selected to receive an award from each subject area. Those students were Matthew Lamb – English Language Arts; Cayden Rodgers – Math; Braden Hardeman – Science; Samuel Fife – Social Studies; Mason Connell – Agriculture; Jaliya Moore – Business; Ava Goggans – Family, and Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). Kaland Brazell received the Character Award, also known as the “Do Right” Award.
Dual Enrollment
Shanty De Leon, Mason Connell, Emmalee Foskey, Braden Hardeman, and Joselyn Sanchez were recognized for their work in dual enrollment at Brewton-Parker College. Mikayla Bargeron, Tressa Brantley, Aaliyah Brazell, Jabrayla Coglin, Xavier Douglas, Charlee Ely, Ava Goggans, Braden Hardeman, Matthew Lamb, Jaliya Moore, Mason Scott, and Rome Thornton were also acknowledged for their work in dual enrollment courses at Southeastern Technical College.
Beta Club
Vivian Bradham, Samuel Fife, Xavier Douglas, Hanna Hutcheson, Javarius Kelly, Tapley Kight, Matthew Lamb, Brandon Phillips, and Haley Rogers received a gold cord to wear at graduation for their participation in Beta Club.
Tressa Brantley, Aaliyah Brazell, Kaland Brazell, Shanty De Leon, Jabrayla Coglin, Mason Connell, Emmalee Foskey, Ava Goggans, Braden Hardeman, Jaliya Moore, Ethan Price, Joselyn Sanchez, Mason Scott, and Rome Thornton received gold stoles to wear with their graduation regalia in recognition of their participation in Beta Club and outstanding number of community service hours logged during their club membership.
Rome Thornton also received a medal for having the most community service hours logged with the Beta Club, as he has completed 236 total hours of community service.
STAR Student
Braden Hardeman was honored during the ceremony for his achievement of being the school’s STAR Student by having the highest SAT score among the Top 10 students in his class.
Honor Graduates
Rome Thornton will serve as the class valedictorian, while Xavier Douglas finishes his high school career as salutatorian.

Junior Ushers
The top 10 students academically from the Montgomery County High School Class of 2024 will serve as junior ushers during the graduation ceremony and festivities. Those students are Aidan Harbuck, Rebecca Hong, Heriberto Lopez-Lugo, Zaire Nobles, Yareli Osorio- Aguilar, Dev Patel, Ansleigh Randolph, Dulce Santiago-Cervantes, Ayden Wade, and Haley Walker.
