Vidalia Among “Top 12 Cutest Small Towns” in South
The city of Vidalia recently gained international attention, as it was named as one of the “Top 12 Cutest Small Towns” in the Southern United States by World Atlas.
Vidalia found itself among a list of several well-known tourist locations, such as Helen, Georgia; Beaufort, South Carolina; Dahlonega, Georgia; and Blowing Rock, North Carolina. According to World Atlas Contributor Albert Quigg, these locations, among others, were highlighted for their “remarkable natural beauty, affluent cultural history, and a hospitable ambiance that make them a great holiday destination.”
Overall, Quigg summarized the list, as he wrote, “Each town has its special allure and personalcontinued from page
ity, making them deserving of exploration and experience… They afford a glimpse into the bountiful history and culture of the region and offer an exclusive chance to interact with nature and relax.”
Among the aspects of Vidalia which were highlighted was the Vidalia Onion Museum and Paul Anderson Youth Home, both of which were praised for their history and interesting souvenirs. The downtown area was also commended for its variety of stores, restaurants, and art galleries.
According to Vidalia Convention & Visitors Bureau Executive Director Alexa Britton, this recognition came as a surprise. “It’s very nice to be recognized as one of ‘12 Cutest Small Towns’ in the Southern U.S. We didn’t know we were being considered by World Atlas, so all their research was done either by online searches or by their writer incognito,” she emphasized. “It’s always great to get free publicity that’s positive.”
Vidalia Mayor Doug Roper also commented on the honor. “We are excited to find ourselves on a list of small towns in the southern United States where people are encouraged to visit,” he remarked. “We strive daily for our community to be a great place to call home and we want everyone that visits to en- joy their time in Vidalia.8 Hopefully, this recognition by World Atlas will encourage some people that have not yet visited The Sweet Onion City to come and see first hand what Vidalia is all about.”
