A Toombs County Grand Jury has indicted Tereso Hinojosa Ramirez in connection with a 2022 shooting that wounded Ortavious Deshaun Haynes.

The Grand Jury returned a true bill of indictment on Friday, June 2.

Ramirez, 38, is charged with two counts of Hindering the Apprehension of a Criminal, Fleeing/Attempting to Elude a Police Officer, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon as a result of his involvement in a shooting in Lyons June 30, 2022, that resulted in injury to Haynes’ neck and ear.

According to the Lyons Police Department, on June 30, the Lyons Police Department was dispatched to a home at the corner of Southeast Broad Street and South Tenth Street regarding reports of shots being fired.

Upon reaching the scene, officers discovered that an unknown shooter or shooters had fired shots into a crowd of people outside the residence. Multiple bullet holes were found in the exterior walls of two adjacent apartment units. The weapon used in the incident was also recovered.

Authorities discovered that a victim of the shooting, later identified as Haynes, had gone by personal vehicle to Memorial Health Meadows Hospital to seek medical attention. Haynes reportedly sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the neck and ear. Further investigation into the case led to the identification of two suspects: a 16-year-old juvenile and Otis Lee Harris, Jr., 18, who were the suspected shooters in the incident. Law enforcement officials were notified about the whereabouts of these individuals on Wednesday, July 6, which led to their arrests. Ramirez was also arrested at this time for hindering the apprehension of the subjects.

The grand jury found that the evidence against Hinojosa (Ramirez) for his role in the crimes was enough to try the case, which will be scheduled at a later date.
