Toombs School Board Slates Budget Hearing, Solar Project Presentation

The Toombs County School System will hold its annual budget hearing on Thursday, June 22, after which the Board will hear a presentation from Doug Baird on the implementation of solar panels on the school grounds.
According to Superintendent Barry Waller, the school has received a grant to proceed with the District’s solar project, so Baird will inform the Board about the implementation process and answer any questions that may arise.
The budget hearing will begin at 5 p.m., and the budget will be voted upon at the conclusion of the hearing. The solar presentation will follow. The proposed budget is available for review online at the District’s website.

The Toombs County High School will begin the “7 Mindsets” socio-emotional curriculum, which works to improve relationships, reduce behavioral issues, and help improve mental, social, and emotional health in students. All of the other schools in the District began integrating this program into curriculum last year as they focused on a new mindset each month of the school term. The mindsets studied are: Everything is Possible, Passion First, We are Connected, Attitude of Gratitude, 100% Accountable, Live to Give, and The Time is Now.
Special Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) collections so far this year have totaled $1.4 million; last year, $3.44 million of SPLOST was collected throughout the year.
Georgia Milestone standardized testing results have been received and are currently being reviewed. Waller said that he hopes to have a comparison between this year’s Milestone scores and past years’ Milestone Scores for the Board in August.
