An estimated 3,500 people flocked to Alamo Saturday, June 24, as the little town in Wheeler County marked its 16th annual Independence Day celebration. Crowds covered Alamo’s downtown park where vendors were selling a variety of good eats and merchandise, and kids enjoyed activities ranging from rock climbing to rides. An antique tractor display was a popular attraction and Southern rock musicians entertained on stage until a spectacular fireworks display lit up the skies just after dusk.

The event, traditionally held on the weekend prior to the July Fourth holiday, was hosted by the Alamo Volunteer Fire Department and proceeds from vendor fees will help fund the department’s training and equipment.
