Gillies Graduates From CTAE Director’s Academy

Amy Gillies, CTAE Director for the Vidalia City School System and Unmanned Flight Instructor for Southeastern Early College and Career Academy (SECCA), graduated from the New Career Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE ) Director's Academy in early June. Gillies received a certificate of completion at the Georgia Association for Career and Technical Education Conference (GACTE) in Athens, Georgia. The yearlong academy provides new directors with support and training during their first year as a CTAE director.

CTAE integrates core academic knowledge with technical and occupational skills to prepare students for postsecondary education and the workforce. Georgia's Career Clusters allow students to choose an area of interest in high school from 17 career clusters. Students take classes tailored to their career cluster. In her role as CTAE Director, Gillies will oversee the development, implementation, and growth of curriculum and extracurricular activities for CTAE in the Vidalia City School System.

“I have been so impressed with Mrs. Gillies' work this year,” said Vidalia High School Principal Bruce Mulkey. “She's worked collaboratively with our CTAE teachers to develop a vision, implement a strategic plan, and ensure our programs receive the funding and support needed to provide some truly amazing experiences for our students. Successfully completing the New CTAE Director's Academy speaks to her commitment to our students, staff, and community stakeholders. Vidalia City Schools is fortunate to have her serve in this capacity.”

FAÇADE GRANTS — The Wheeler County Chamber of Commerce awarded three $500 grants to businesses located on Railroad Street in downtown Alamo. The businesses owned by businessman G.M. Joiner, attorney Russell Clark, and Glenwood Telephone Company CEO Jim O’Brien, have undergone recent renovations. The grants are available to Chamber members in good standing who own businesses in Glenwood and Alamo.
