VHS Opens Season 2-0
The Vidalia High School softball team opened their season last weekend at the Harlem High School Fall Classic in Augusta. They picked up wins over two larger teams in Washington-Wilkes and Greenbriar. vs. Washington
In Game 1 the Indians defeated Washington-Wilkes by a score of 7-0.
Vidalia jumped on top in the 1st inning on a single by senior Emma Vinson that scored Gabby Royal. The Indians manufactured a couple more runs in the 3rd inning when Royal reached on an error, a double by senior Tymber Harris, followed by two wild pitches.
Vidalia added 4 more in the 4th when Laylah Brantley reached on a fielders choice, Gabby Royal singled to center, Rileigh Scott walked, then Tymber Harris and Emma Vinson each doubled.
In the circle Tymber Harris pitched 3 innings, giving up just 1 hit and striking out 9. Freshman Aubrey Jones came in to close things out, throwing 2 innings, allowing 1 hit and striking out 2. vs. Greenbriar
In Game 2 of the Harlem High School Fall Classic, the Vidalia Indian Softball team faced 5A perennial power Greenbriar High School.
The scoring started in the 3rd inning when Laylah Brantley singled, moved to second on a walk by Gabby Royal, then scored on successive passed balls. Senior Emma Vinson then singled to score Royal and give the Indians a 2-0 lead.
Greenbriar would answer in the bottom of the 3rd by capitalizing on a couple of Vidalia errors, making the score 2-1.
The Indians responded with 3 in the top of the 4th. Sadie Berry led the inning off with a single and moved to 2nd on a Deidra Boston sacrifice bunt. Aidyn Driggers singled, then Berry scored on a Laylah Brantley hit. A walk and a hit batter scored another run to extend the lead to 4-1. Then Tymber Harris singled to score Brantley and the Indians’ lead was 5-1 after 4 innings.
Vidalia tacked on 1 more run in the 5th when Rileigh Scott walked, then Deidra Boston tripled.
Tymber Harris got the Win in the circle in dominating fashion, throwing 5 innings, allowing just one hit, 0 earned runs, and striking out 13 batters.
This week VHS took on Bleckley County on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Thursday at home for against Glascock County starting at 5:00 p.m.
