Lady Crusaders Fall To Wheeler

The Robert Toombs Christian Academy Lady Crusaders softball team took on Wheeler County last week. They had a game scheduled against Pinewood on Tuesday, but it was postponed due to weather.

RTCA made it close but fell just short to the Lady Bulldogs of Wheeler. Wheeler jumped out with three runs in the top of the first inning to get the game underway. In the bottom half RTCA scored two runs to close the lead to 3-2.

Wheeler added another run in the top of the second inning, and then they plated three more in the fourth inning to take a 7-2 lead. Wheeler made it 8-2 in the top of the fifth inning, but RTCA put three runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth to close the lead to 8-5. RTCA added one more in the sixth inning, but couldn't get it going in the seventh as they came up just short, 8-6.

Emily Edwards had three hits for RTCA, with Railee Thomas and Meredith Durden each with two hits. Durden and Haylie Kight each drove in two runs, and Durden had a home run in the game.

This week RTCA hosted Edmund Burke Academy on Tuesday after presstime.
