The Lady Crusaders softball team of Robert Toombs Christian Academy won two games last week as they took on Montgomery County High School and Pinewood Christian Academy. RTCA got the run rule continued from page

win over MCHS on Monday and then pulled out the win over Pinewood at home on Thursday.

Vs. MCHS

RTCA jumped out to a four-run lead in the top of the first inning. MCHS scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the first inning, making the score 4-1.

RTCA added a run in the top of the third inning and then scored six more in the top of the fourth inning to take a commanding 11-1 lead. RTCA held in the fifth inning to win the game by the run rule, 11-1.

RTCA was led by Emily Edwards with 3 RBI’s, and Haylie Kight added two more. Meredith Durden got the win in the circle for RTCA.

Vs. Pinewood

RTCA again jumped out to an early lead as they plated three runs in the bottom of the first inning to go up 3-0 on the Lady Patriots. Pinewood closed that to 3-2 in the top of the second inning, but in the bottom of the frame RTCA extended their lead.

Durden drove in a run on a fielder’s choice to make it 4-2. An error on a hit by Bree Wimberly put RTCA on top 5-2. RTCA loaded the bases and a walk by Kight scored a run for a 6-2 lead.

In the top of the third inning a 2-run home run by Pinewood closed the lead to 6-4, but that was all they could get in the third inning.

In the bottom of the inning Kinsley Kennedy walked, and then Arlie Gooden got a solid single to put runners on first and second. Maddie Joyner followed that with a double down the left field line, driving in two runs for an 8-4 lead.

Pinewood plated two more runs in the top of the fourth inning to again make it a two-run game at 8-6, but RTCA got out of the inning without allowing any more runs. RTCA scored one more run in the bottom of the fourth to take a 9-6 lead over Pinewood.

Pinewood added one more run in the top of the seventh inning, but RTCA held on to take the win, 9-7.

This week RTCA faced Vidalia Heritage Academy on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Thursday for another game against VHA, this one in Vidalia at 6:00 p. m.
