Robert Toombs Christian Academy had their 4th Annual Powder Puff football game on Wednesday, September 20, at McLendon Field. There were two teams vying for the win. The Navy team consisted of the Sophomore and Junior classes, and the Columbia team consisted of the Freshman and Senior classes. The Senior class felt a lot of pressure for this highly anticipated game due to their three year reign as champions.
Coaches for the teams were Hayden Kight, Hunter Sikes, and Tripp Durden for the Columbia team, and Gage Brantley and Jayden Toole for the Navy Team.
The game consisted of two 20 minute halves and a 10 minute halftime. The game started at 6:30 p.m., and had a great turn out.
Throughout the first half, both teams had gotten close to the end zone but were never able to break through to gain a touchdown. Notable defense was shown from Caroline Thompson for the Columbia team and Meredith Durden for the Navy team. A great passing game was shown by quarterback Emmie Davis for the Columbia team and Madalyn Joyner for the Navy team.
After the halftime break, it was back to business for both teams. Late in the second half the Navy team finally made it to the end zone for a touchdown on a pass thrown by Madayn Joyner and caught by Meredith Durden.
With that play, it brought the score to 6-0, for a victory by the Navy team. All proceeds were benefiting the Yearbook Staff. RTCA would like to give a huge thank you to Becky Pittman for organizing and putting together this year's powderpuff game.
