Wheeler Hosts Homecoming
It was Homecoming for the Wheeler County High School Bulldogs as they hosted the Bobcats of Dooly County last Friday night in Alamo. It was a tough game for Wheeler as they fell 2117. They had a chance, but couldn't get the big play when they needed it.
During halftime of the game the Bulldogs crowned the 2023 Homcoming Queen and Princess. The Homecoming Queen is Kayleigh Sanders and the Homecoming Princess is Anniyah Wright.
Early in the game the Bulldogs were facing a fourth down and connected on a pass on a fake punt from Alvin Ricks to Jeremiah Kincy for a big first down to the 12yard line with just over eight minutes to go in the first quarter. Wheeler was held there, but they kicked a 22yard field goal by Joshua Juarez to take a 3-0 lead over Dooly.
The Wheeler defense then forced a punt. They moved it across midfield, but then stalled and had to punt the ball back to Dooly with 1:08 left in the first quarter.
Wheeler held and forced a punt, which was partially blocked. That gave Wheeler the ball at the Dooly 27-yard line. Wheeler was pushed back on penalties, though. They tried a long field goal, but it fell short.
Dooly finally got on the board on a 42-yard touchdown pass with three minutes left in the first half. They missed the extra point, but Dooly now led, 6-3.
That score held as Dooly took a 6-3 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter with eight minutes to play, Dooly connected on a touchdown pass. They tacked on the two-point conversion to take a 14-3 lead over the Bulldogs.
Dooly extended that lead to 21-3 with just one minute left in the third quarter on a 27-yard pass for a score. They added the PAT.

Wilcox on a 20-yard touchdown pass. Rodgers took it in on the twopoint try to close the gap to 21-11.
Wheeler then recovered an onside kick at the 47-yard line, but they turned the ball over on a fumble with nine minutes left in the game.
The Wheeler defense held and forced a punt, taking over at the 50-yard line with just over three minutes left in the game.
They quickly moved the ball down the field, and Rodgers punched it in from three yards out for a touchdown with two minutes left in the game. They missed the extra point, but were now down, 21-17.
Wheeler tried for another onside kick, but this time the did not get it as Dooly took the ball and was able to burn out the clock to take the win, 2117, over Wheeler County.
Ricks led the way on the ground for Wheeler with 66 yards, but they spread the ball around well with Rodgers adding 50 yards, and Jay Adams running for 49 yards. Kincy had four receptions for 82 yards in the game.
This week the Bulldogs will be on the road at Hawkinsville with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
