BPC Names New Track Coach

Brewton-Parker College Vice President of Athletics Chris Dooley and Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Adam Cokonougher announced the addition of Stephen Roberts to the coaching staff. Roberts has become the latest Head Coach for the Brewton-Parker Track and Field program.
“We’re thrilled to have Coach Roberts join our program and to become the next Head Coach of BPC Track and Field,” Cokonougher said. “He is well-experienced in the profession, but his faith is what stood out to us the most. We are beyond excited for the next step in this journey for the program!”
Roberts has amassed over 20 years of coaching experience with much of that time being with track and field. He specializes in sprints, hurdles, and jumps and has produced 40 Georgia State Qualifiers, 27 State Finalists, and five State Champion athletes. As for the team success, he has helped produce 12 State Qualifying relay teams, nine State Finals teams, and three State Runner-Up titles.
His coaching experience has reached the national and even world stages as one of his athletes went on to become the 2015 New Balance 110m Hurdles Runner-Up, and a three-time USA Champion in the 110m hurdles. In addition, the same athlete represented the United States in the 2019, 2022, and 2023 World Championships, earning the bronze medal during the 2023 championships. Lastly, his athlete represented the United States in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
“I have a passion for coaching, it is truly my calling, and it brings me great joy,” Roberts said. “I am beyond grateful to Mr. Dooley and Coach Cokonougher for giving me this opportunity. God has guided me here to Brewton- Parker, and I am amazed to see the work He has done throughout my life.” “I trust God and all the glory belongs to Him,” Roberts mentioned. “I’m here because of Him, and I’m extremely thankful to continue to do what I love. I look forward to continuing to push this program forward.”
Roberts comes to Mount Vernon after previously serving at Woodland High School in Stockbridge, Ga., while also being the Founder and Head Coach of the Iris City Summer Track Club in Griffin, Ga. He began his coaching career at Starr’s Mill High School and Rising Starr Middle School in Fayetteville, serving for over 10 years prior to making stops at Griffin High School and Hampton High School.
Coach Roberts is a graduate of Mercer University with a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies. He and his wife of 32 years, Melissa come to Mount Vernon after previously living in Griffin, Ga. The couple has six kids, four boys and two girls.
