Lady Dawgs Win Two

In Tuesday’s region face-off, the Lady Dawgs encountered a challenging Vidalia team, ultimately concluding the series with a 10-0 defeat. Vidalia’s offense was quick to action, registering 3 runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back. Although the Lady Dawgs put up decent defense, Vidalia managed to add more runs in both the third and fifth innings.
From an offensive standpoint, Emerson Powell went 1-for-2 at the plate with a single and walk. The only other two Bulldogs to record hits in the game were Nora Grace Mercer and Mishi Smith. The Toombs County High School Lady Bulldogs softball team played three games last week and picked up wins in two of them. They fell to Vidalia on Tuesday at home, but bounced back with Region wins over Tattnall County and Brantley County. Toombs is now 14-8 on the year and they are 8-5 in the Region, sitting in third place. vs. Tattnall
On Wednesday, Shay Stringer showcased her prowess on the mound, striking out 13 batters to propel the Toombs County Lady Dawgs Softball team to a 5-2 region win over Tattnall County. Over her seven innings pitched, Stringer allowed only three hits and two runs, while issuing four walks.
The Lady Dawgs drew first blood in the second inning, scoring off a passed ball. The momentum continued into the third when Casey Cantwell grounded out to bring in another run, extending the lead to 2-0.
However, an error by the Lady Dawgs allowed Tattnall County to even the score at two-all during the bottom of the fourth.
The tie didn’t last long. In the top of the seventh, a series of hits by Stringer and Kassidy Brantley, followed by a sacrifice fly from Natalie Quintero, ensured three runs for the Lady Dawgs.
The Lady Dawgs’ offense was on fire, accumulating 11 hits throughout the game. Standout performances included Brantley, Nora Grace Mercer, Stringer, and Cantwell, who each had two hits. Additionally, Brantley, Quintero, and Stringer each contributed an RBI to the Lady Dawgs’ victory. vs. Brantley
On Thursday, the Toombs County Lady Dawgs Softball team secured another region victory with a 5-0 win against Brantley County.
The Lady Dawgs set the tone early, scoring in the top of the first inning through two timely singles. The team’s initial run came as Kassidy Brantley delivered a crucial single.
Throughout the game, the Lady Dawgs displayed their batting strength, accumulating 11 hits. Standout performances at the plate included Aniston Powell, Emerson Powell, and Cyleigh Enis, each securing two hits. Moreover, Mishi Smith, batting from the eighth spot, contributed two RBIs with a 1-for-4 effort. Notably, the team maintained a strong defensive presence, ensuring no errors on the field.
On the mound, Shay Stringer was instrumental in the Lady Dawgs’ win. The southpaw pitcher allowed just three hits and kept Brantley County scoreless over seven innings. Her performance was further highlighted with nine strikeouts and just one walk.
The Lady Dawgs finish the regular season this week. They played their final two Region games on Monday and Tuesday after presstime. They played Tattnall County on Monday and then Pierce County on Tuesday. They wrap up the regular season on Wednesday at home at 6:00 p.m. against the Lady Tigers of Metter.
