Indians Host Tip-Off Tourney
The Vidalia High School Indians basketball teams hosted the first day of the Hwy. 280 Tip-Off Tournament sponsored by Southeastern Technical College on Saturday of last week. Both the girls and the boys got wins in their first games of the year as they battled the Raiders of West Laurens.
Girls vs. W. Laurens
The Lady Indians jumped out to a big lead in the first quarter of the game and were on top 14-4 at the buzzer. In the second quarter the Lady Raiders closed in on the lead, but VHS was up 2719 heading to halftime.
In the third VHS kept pace with West Laurens to lead 44-35 going to the final period. Vidalia pulled away in the fourth to take a 63-47 win over the Raiders.
Boys vs. W. Laurens
The Indians took down the Raiders of West Laurens by the score of 79-58 on the opening night of the STC Tip-Off Classic. Jayon Coleman led the way with 26 points, Cori Mincey added 15, and Jacaree Washington chipped in 14 in the win.
The defense was led by Antonio Barron, who had 7 steals, 7 deflections, and 5 rebounds.
On Tuesday of this week the Tip-Off Tournament wrapped up after presstime. The Lady Indians faced off with Screven County and the boys took on the Warhawks of Veterans. The teams will not be back in action until December 5, against ECI.
