The Montgomery County Board of Tax Assessors gave an update on the county’s search for a Chief Appraiser during a regular monthly meeting on Thursday, November 16. According to the Board, no applications or resumes have been submitted for the county’s Chief Appraiser position, which was recently vacated due to former Chief Appraiser Julie Adams’ resignation last month. When discussing this matter, Board member Chad Harrison emphasized the difficulty of finding a Level 4 Appraiser, stating that most of the state offices are struggling to fill these positions because of the lack of appraisers with continued from page
this high level of training.
Because of this, Harrison, along with Board members Nina Thompson and Macon Beard, asked Assistant Appraiser Michael Moore if he would be open to completing the training and gaining the certifications needed to fulfill the role. Moore informed the Board that he would be willing to do that and said he would find out how much more training would be needed, as he has already completed some of the classes. He told the Board that he would share this number of courses at the next meeting.
During the meeting, the Board also agreed to table its decision on the proposed property tax schedules until it could speak with a professional for more information on the documents. That professional is scheduled to make a visit to Montgomery County in early December.
