Toombs County 4H Earns Honors at Southeast District Project Achievement

Toombs County 4-H recently hosted the 2023 Fall Cloverleaf Southeast District Project Achievement. Over 200 4-H members in the 4th – 6th grades from ten Southeast District counties attended the event. Forty-two members from Toombs County 4-H participated in the contest, earning Toombs County 1st place in Highest Number of Participants.
According to Cheryl Poppell, Toombs County 4-H Coordinator, “District Project Achievement, or DPA, offers youth their first experience in public speaking. To compete, members select a project area and narrow their interest to a specific topic. Members then prepare and give a 4 – 6-minute demonstration about their topic.”
Participants from Toombs County 4-H are listed by school.
Nine students from Lyons Upper Elementary School participated in DPA. First place winners were Landon Brewton (Current People), Matilyn Fulmer (Marine & Coastal Ecology), and Jaylin Cardwell (Robotics). Second place winners included Aaryn Fulmer (General Recreation) and Elijah Clark (Outdoor Recreation). Mason Dowdy (Wildlife) won 3rd place. Receiving 4th place in the competition were Neveah Lawrence (Dog Care), Athens Boney (Herpetology), and Tahiry Moseley (Sports-Individual).
Robert Toombs Christian Academy had two participants. Easton Moore (Outdoor Recreation) earned 1st place. Tilly Baker (Performing Arts – Vocal) won 2nd place.
Sally Meadows Elementary School had 7 participants. Earning 1st place were Henry Zainey (Food Safety), Gage Kelley (General Science), and Noah Johnson (Videography). Harley Adams (Marine and Coastal Ecology), and Joleny Cruz (Veterinary Science) placed 3rd. Earning 4th place was Kylie Carroll (General Recreation) and Kyndal Carroll (Sports – Individual).
Toombs County Middle School had 12 participants. First place winners included Shaylah Williams (Fruits, Vegetables, Nuts), Sarah Richter (Photography), Addison Wilcher (Sports – Individual), and Carmen Guerrero (Workforce Preparation). Second place winners included Zylah Heller (Workforce Preparation). Third place winners included Jacqueline Corneja (Marine & Coastal Ecology) and Victoriana Odom (Workforce Preparation). Receiving 4th place were Ashelynn Love (Dog Care), Molly Williams (Sports – Team), Trinity Diaz (Sports – Team), Layla Williams (Geology) and Brycen Landrum (Dog Care).
Toombs Central Elementary School had 8 participants. Charlotte Garrett (Housing), Jude Coleman (Plants and Soils), and Olivia Richter (Swine) placed 1st. Luke Harden (Sports – Individual) and Clayton Cannady (Robotics) placed 2nd. Addyson McLamb placed 3rd. Placing 4th in the competition was Aria Mathews (General Recreation), and Savannah Duckels (Dog Care).
Vidalia Heritage Academy had three participants. Earning 1st place was Adeline Poole (Companion Animals), and Emily Poole (Horse). Kyla Nuetzi (Wildlife) placed 2nd.
The event was a huge success thanks to a host of volunteers and teen leaders who assisted. The Toombs County 4-H program is under the direction of 4-H Coordinator Cheryl Poppell, 4-H Educator Riley Wimberly, and 4-H AmeriCorps Member Carol Hester. Toombs County Agriculture Agent Jason Edenfield also cocoordinated the event.
