TCHS Basketball Takes 2 From Yellow Jackets

The Toombs County High School Bulldogs basketball teams split with the fighting Irish of Dublin and then took two from the Jeff Davis Yellow Jackets last week on the hardcourt.

On Tuesday night, the Lady Bulldogs faced a challenging game against the Dublin Fight ing Irish, ultimately falling short of victory. Aniyah McKinnon led the team’s scoring efforts with a commendable 13 points, followed closely by Brinley Miller, who contributed 12 points, including three 3-pointers from beyond the arc.

On the rebounding front, Arianna Hill and Kayla Brewton delivered dominant performances, controlling the boards with determination.

TCHS was down just 13-12 at the end of the first quarter, but a big run by Dublin in the second had them in front 28-14 at halftime. Dublin increased that lead to 4622 at the end of the third, and Dublin took the win, 59- 30.

On Tuesday night, both the JV and Varsity men’s basketball teams of Toombs County were victorious over the Dub- lin Fighting Irish. The JV team set the tone with an exhilarating 56-46 overtime victory. Despite trailing by 12 points in the second half, they staged a remarkable comeback, culminating in Deon Moore’s gametying three-pointer with just 2.4 seconds remaining, propelling the game into overtime. In the extra period, the JV Dogs dominated Dublin, outscoring them by 10.

Zaylen Davis led the JV team’s scoring effort with 18 points, while Don Mincey and Amari Eason each contributed 5 points, playing pivotal roles in the team’s success.

The Varsity Dogs continued their winning ways with another display of strong defensive play. They began the game with an overwhelming 15-0 lead in the first quarter, extending it to 17-0 early in the second, and never looked back. This impressive start set the stage for a comfortable 58-36 victory, advancing their season record to 6-1.

Dominic Eason was the top scorer for the Varsity Dogs with 18 points. Jesus Quintero followed with 12 points, while Mike Polke and Marion James each added 8 points. Juju Cutler contributed 6 points and led the rebounding with 11 boards. Eason also had a notable 10 rebounds, with James grabbing 8, Parker Stanley 6, and Gavin Fletcher 5. Quintero led the team with 3 assists, and both he and Eason each had 3 steals. Eason also impressed with 2 blocks.

Girls vs. JD

On Saturday, the Lady HoopDawgs domi nated Jeff Davis, jumping out to a big lead in the first quarter and never looking back from there, winning by a score of 6318.

Aniyah McKinnon led all scorers with an impressive 30 points.

Newcomer Natalie Quintero had the hot hand hitting 4 three pointers.

Sophomore forward, Ari- anna Hill chipped in with 12 points, while Kayla Brewton and Brinley Miller controlled the boards on defense.

Boys vs. JD Saturday witnessed two more commendable performances from the Toombs County JV and Men’s Basketball teams.

The JV team, despite trailing by double figures in the first half, rallied in the second half to secure a 37-30 win over Jeff Da- vis. Leading the scoring for JV were Alex Scott and Ty’Quan Monroe, each contributing 8 points, propelling the team to a promising 2-0 start for the year.

The Varsity men continued the winning momentum with another robust defensive display, completely shutting out Jeff Davis in the first quarter while racking up 22 points.

A highlight of the game was a significant milestone achieved by Dominic Eason, who, with a stunning lefthanded tomahawk dunk, scored his 1,000th career point—a remarkable accomplishment.

Dominic led the Varsity team’s scoring with 16 points, accompanied by 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and a block in three quarters of play. Mike Polke also made a significant impact with 12 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, and a steal. Parker Stanley contributed 10 points and 6 rebounds, while Jesus Quintero added 8 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Coming off the bench, Gavin Fletcher provided valuable output with 8 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists. Marion James was a force on the boards, securing 11 rebounds.

This week the Bulldogs were at Vidalia on Tuesday night after presstime. They will be back in action on Friday night at Brantley County with the first game at 6:00 p.m.
