Lady Indians Over TCHS In Double OT
The Vidalia High School basketball teams took on cross county rival Toombs County at home on Tuesday night of last week, then hosted Pierce County on Friday and Montgomery County on Saturday. The Lady Indians picked up a win over Toombs in double overtime, while the boys won their games over Pierce and Montgomery.
Girls vs. Toombs
It was a tale of two halves in the girls game between the Lady Bulldogs and the Lady Indians. In the first quarter, each team only managed to score six points for a 6-6 tie heading to the second quarter.
In the second quarter of the game, the scoring output was even less as TCHS added just four points, while the Lady Indians were not able to score at all. That sent the game to halftime with Toombs on top, 10-6.
But in the third quarter, VHS came out and outscored Toombs, 12-9 as they closed the lead down to 19-18. The fourth saw a run from both teams as Vidalia came back and tied the game to force overtime. Vidlaia did just enough in that fourth quarter to send the game to extra time tied at 34-34.
In the first overtime period, both teams added eight points to their total, pushing the game to double overtime with the score tied at 42-42. In the second overtime, VHS outscored Toombs 11-9 as they took the win, 53-51, over the Lady Bulldogs.
Boys vs. Toombs
In the boys game, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 21-12 lead in the first period and extended that to a halftime lead of 40-22.
Vidalia came out in the third quarter and made a run as they at one point had it down to a four-point game. At the end of the third quarter, the Bulldogs were on top 48-41. Toombs held off VHS in the fourth on the way to a 66-51 victory.
Girls vs. Pierce
Vidalia made a furious comeback against the Lady Bears but fell just short in the end. Pierce came out and took a 15-2 lead by the end of the first period. VHS started to get things going in the second as they kept pace with Pierce. At the end of the first half, the Lady Indians were trailing 27-13.
Vidalia held on in the third quarter, but was still down 37-22 going to the final period. In the fourth, the Indians outscored Pierce 17-4 as they made a run, but fell short, losing the game 41-39.
Boys vs. Pierce
The VHS boys had no problems with the Bears as they ran away with a win. Vidalia was in front 18-9 at the end of the first quarter and took a 36-16 lead into halftime.
The Indians had a big third quarter, outscoring Pierce 27-12, to take a 6128 lead into the fourth. Vidalia went on to win the game by the score of 74-33.
Girls vs. Montgomery
The Lady Indians played well but didn't have enough against the Lady Eagles, who are ranked #3 in the state in Class A Division 2.
In the first quarter, the Lady Indians came out and took a lead over MCHS. VHS led the game 14-10 at the end of the first quarter. In the second, neither team could get many shots to fall, and MCHS closed the lead to one at halftime, with VHS on top 18-17.
In the third quarter, the Lady Eagles got going and overtook VHS. Montgomery led the game 3728 heading to the fourth. MCHS went on to win the game, 51-38.
Boys vs. Montgomery
In the boys game, it was the other way around with the Indians rolling to a win. Vidalia came out of the gate hitting every shot as they built up a 27-5 lead in the first quarter. They extended that lead to 4010 heading into halftime.
In the second half, the Indians kept up the pressure as they were on top 69-22 at the end of the third. Vidalia took the win, 84-36.
The Lady Indians are now 4-4 on the year and are 1-1 in Region play, while the boys are 6-2 overall and are 1-1 in the Region. This week the Indians will be at Long County on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. They will then play after Christmas in a tournament from December 27-29.
