The Montgomery County Commission approved the 2024 budget during its regular monthly meeting on Monday, December 11. The Commission’s new budget has a projected expenditure of $5,678,925, and projected revenue of $5,333,519, with the majority of that funding coming from property taxes. Overall, these revenues, in addition to a $285,406 contribution of funds stored in the General Fund, will balance the $5,618,925 budget. This balancing will also change the General Fund’s balance from $2,400,000 at the beginning of the year to $2,114,594 at the end of the year.
In addition to this adoption of the budget, the Commission also agreed to move $400,000 from the General Fund to the Capital Projects Fund in preparation for any costs that may come from the completion of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office renovation or the energy saving solutions plan from the ABM Energy Savings Project, for which the commissioners have issued a letter of intent. As part of this project, ABM workers will survey the county’s facilities to determine areas that resources, such as light bulbs and HVAC units, can be replaced to help save money on energy costs.
Oconee Drug Task Force Intergovernmental & Interagency Agreement and Workers’ Compensation with ACCG Insurance & Risk Management Services were renewed, and Alexis Fountain was appointed to the Board of Health, while Matt Waller was appointed to the Board of Assessors.
During the work session, County Manager Brandon Braddy informed the Commission and the public that current County Attorney Paul Cook has stated that he does not wish to renew his contract with the County. The County will seek a new attorney to fill this position beginning in 2024.
