Bulldogs Are State Runner-up
It was a big week for the Toombs County High School wrestling team as they competed at Jeff Davis High School in the GHSA State AA Dual Championships. The Bulldogs had a great showing over the multiday event, walking away as State Runner-ups. vs. North Murray
In the Bulldogs' first match in the Championship Round, they took on North Murray. Toombs rolled to a big, 51-18, victory in the match.
Of the 14 weight classes, the Bulldogs won all but three of those matches. At 120 lbs, Jordan Banen won 12-7, at 126 Dylan Vetter won by pin, at 132 Cameron Spivey won 8-4, at 138 Tyson Brantley won 7-2, and at 144 Dabvn Wadley won by pin.
Slade Landrum won at 150 by forfeit, but TCHS dropped the matches at 157 lbs. and at 165 lbs. TCHS bounced back with a win at 175 by Levi Worth by pin, and then won at 190 lbs. with Hayden Roy winning 6-0. Toombs dropped the 215 match, but closed it out with wins at 285 by Brock Nobles by pin, at 106 Jericho Latoy won by pin, and at 113 Wyatt Bunch won 12-5. vs. Jordan
Toombs won their next dual over Jordan, 51-24. TCHS took matches at 126, 132, and 138 lbs., before falling at 144. The Bulldogs won the next five matches to build up a big lead at 150, 157, 165, 175, and at 190 lbs. Toombs lost the next two before getting a win at 106 lbs by Benjamin Parra by pin. Toombs fell in the final two matches, but took the dual win. vs. Union County
In the State Dual semifinal the Bulldogs took a close win over Union County by the score of 45-33. Wyatt Bunch got a win by forfeit at 113 lbs, Dylan Vetter won at 126, and Robert Agzigian won at 132 lbs. Wadley took his match at 144 lbs. by pin, and Michale Jones won at 157 lbs. by pin. Gailian Wilds won his match by pin at 165lbs. Then Roy and Nobles won at 215 and 285 to close out the match and secure the trip to the State Finals. vs. Rockmart The Bulldogs went up against a familiar face in Rockmart in the finals. Toombs gave it their all, but fell short, 55-21.
Wadley got the first win for the Bulldogs in the second match of the finals when he pinned his opponent at 144 lbs. Wilds picked up a win by pin at 165 lbs., and Nobles won his match, 7-5, at 285 lbs. The only other win for Toombs came at 126 lbs. by Vetter by pin.
With this big team accomplishment the Bulldogs have a lot of momentum heading into the second half of the season. They will now move into the Individual portion of the wrestling season and hope to have some solid results for this part as well.
