Indian Wrestlers Finish In 5th Place
The Vidalia High School wrestling team competed in the GHSA State AA Dual Championship at Jeff Davis High School last week and came away with a fifth place finish. vs. Cook
In the first round the Indians fell to Cook County, 46-26. Vidalia picked up wins at 165lbs. with Gabriel Hightower winning by pin, at 175 Ronald Pointer won by pin, Jack Godbee won at 190lbs. by technical fall, Stephen Cheeks won at 285 by pin, and at 113lbs. Myikel Johnson won 8-4.
The loss sent the Indians into the consolation bracket, where they battle through four more matches to come out with fifth place. vs. Fellowship
Up next for VHS was Fellowship Christian. It was a close match but the Indians came out on top, 46-35.
Alexander Muzafarov won at 138lbs. 21-9, Chandler Brown took his match at 150 by pin, Cayleb Sanford won at 157 by pin, Hightower took his match at 165 by pin, and Pointer won at 175 by pin.
Godbee won by forfeit at 190lbs., Marcus Dixon won by pin at 215, and Johnson took his match at 113lbs. by forfeit. vs. Jordan
It was another close match as VHS won over Jordan in the next round, 42-34. VHS got wins at 150 by Brown, 157 by Tavarius Brewton, 165 by Hightower, 175 by Pointer, 190 by Godbee, 215 by Dixon, 285 by Cheeks, and 113lbs. by Johnson.
The win sent VHS to the next round to face Landmark Christian. vs. Landmark
VHS pulled out the close win over Landmark, 43-36, to move into the semifinals of the consolation bracket.
VHS lost the first three matches, but bounced back with the middle of their lineup. They got wins form Hightower at 165, Pointer at 175, Godbee at 190, Dixon at 215, and Cheeks at 285 to jump into the lead.
VHS got another win at 113 by Johnson, and closed it out with a pin by Muzafarov at 138 to secure the victory. The win against Landmark set up a rematch for VHS with Cook in the semifinals. vs. Cook
Vidalia gave it their all and made it a closer match then the first, but fell to end their run, 38-35.
Cook took the first three matches before Vidalia rolled off five in a row to take the lead. VHS won matches by Hightower, Pointer, Godbee, Dixon and Cheeks.
VHS again got another win by Johnson at 113, but then lost three in a row. VHS got a final win by pin from Muzafarov at 138lbs., but it was not enough to take the win.
