Wheeler County Boys B-ball Takes 2
The Wheeler County High School Bulldogs basketball teams took on Dublin and Telfair County last week. The Lady Bulldogs dropped both of their games while the boys picked up wins in both contests, including in overtime against Telfair.
Girls vs. Dublin
Dublin pulled out to an 18-2 lead in the first quarter of the game. Wheeler kept up in the second, but were trailing 27-12 at halftime.
In the third it was all Irish as they outscored Wheeler 18-3. That gave Dublin a 45-15 lead going to the fourth. Dublin went on to win the game 49-21.
Nikita James led Wheeler with 15 points.
Boys vs. Dublin
The Wheeler boys won a close one over the Irish on Tuesday. They pulled out the 61-60 win as they continued to improve on the season.
Girls vs. Telfair
The Lady Bulldogs lost a tough game to Telfair. The Lady Trojans led 17-10 at the end of the first quarter, and they extended that lead to 28-19 at halftime.
In the second half of the game, the Trojans pulled away. They were on top 40-24 at the end of the third, and took the win, 60-26.
James led Wheeler with 14 points.
Boys vs. Telfair
On Saturday, the Wheeler boys team won their game against Telfair by a score of 57-53 in overtime. Telfair held a 16-15 lead at the end of the first quarter of the game, but Wheeler got that point back to send the game to halftime tied at 26-26.
In the third quarter, the Trojans took a lead and were up 39-36 heading into the fourth. Wheeler made up the difference and tied the game at 48-48 at the end of regulation. That sent the game to overtime.
In the overtime period, the Bulldogs outscored Telfair, 9-5, to claim the win, 57-53.
During the game, Wheeler County Senior, Jeremiah Kincy was recognized for surpassing the 1,000 points mark. In Saturday's win, Kincy scored 18 points and sophomore Reco Wooten added 17 points.
The Bulldogs are now 11-3 on the season and are 4-2 in Region play. The Lady Bulldogs are 1-13 on the year and are 1-5 in the Region. This week Wheeler was at Jeff Davis on Monday after presstime. They will be back in action on Saturday at Telfair with tipoff at 3:00 p.m.
